The Department of Information Technology in the College of Engineering and Computing invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor. This position is located on the Armstrong campus, but may require teaching on the other campuses.

Within this setting, Georgia Southern University's Department of Information Technology (IT) offers the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) and the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) degree programs. The BSIT program has specializations in Cybersecurity, Information Management, Networking and Data Center, Web and Mobile Foundations and also offers a concentration in Data Science. The Department of IT is part of the Georgia Southern Center for Applied Cyber Education an interdisciplinary center and a leader in cyber education and training. The department educates students who will lead one of America's fastest growing fields. Active research areas in the Department of IT includes networking and network security, cloud computing, information management, big data, data science, cybersecurity, and web and mobile technologies.

Position Description Reporting to the department chair, the Assistant Professor position requires undergraduate and graduate teaching, service, and research responsibilities. The position is 9/10 month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be required to: (1) develop and teach undergraduate and graduate IT courses; (2) supervise MS-level theses; (3) pursue scholarly activities (including externally-funded research and disseminating it through high quality, peer-reviewed publications); (4) engage in academic mentoring; (5) assist in program assessment and execution of the department's continuous improvement program; (6) participate in appropriate professional service; and (7) participate in professional activities and organizations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Ph.D. in Information Technology, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2019
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching and scholarly activities
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching, research, and professional service
  • Ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary research
  • Expertise in one of the five specialization areas
  • Teaching experience in cybersecurity, Python programming, database and systems development
  • Research experience in cryptography, end-point security, risk assessment and risk management, and social engineering.
