Diversity Pre-Doctoral Fellowship

Penn State Abington invites applications for the Diversity Pre-Doctoral Fellowship. This award is designed to provide support and mentorship for a promising scholar who is committed to diversity, with the goal of preparing the scholar for a tenure-track appointment at Penn State or elsewhere. The fellowship will be for the academic year 2019-2020, with the opportunity for renewal for an additional year. The fellow will teach two courses per semester in their field of expertise. Annual compensation is competitive with a budget for moving expenses. The fellow will enjoy access to the resources of Penn State University's library system, mentorship from senior colleagues, and support for conference travel comparable to that of Penn State Abington's research faculty. The fellowship is open to a wide range of fields, but preference will be given to scholars in fields with existing degree programs at Penn State Abington or areas of need for the college. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited doctoral program in the U.S., authorized to work in the U.S., and demonstrate a commitment to and engagement with equity issues. The fellow must have an approved dissertation proposal and have advanced to candidate status at their home institution. Successful candidates will show evidence of outstanding academic achievement and promise as teachers and scholars. Candidates should have a capacity to respond in pedagogically productive ways to the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to engaging communities underrepresented in the academy. This position is supported, in part, by the Office of the Vice Provost for Education Equity at Penn State. Applicants should submit a current C.V. and cover letter describing the applicant's dissertation project. The letter should address the dissertation's aims, methodologies, and contribution to its field, and any other information the applicant would like to present; a letter from the dissertation advisor, commenting on the student's performance, potential, and expected time to degree; and an official transcript.
