Assistant Professor of Photography, Department of Art and Design (R-01361)
Fort Hays State University's Department of Art and Design is seeking applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Photography to begin fall 2019 (9-month contract). The Department of Art and Design seeks a candidate who is engaged in experimental explorations, creative processes, and practical applications in photography. The candidate is expected to provide students with inspiration, leadership, mentorship and technical guidance. We are looking for a candidate who can foster growth in the photography concentration and has the ability to adapt to new developments in the field and incorporate them into teaching and practice.
- MFA in Photography or Digital Imaging
- Evidence of teaching beyond graduate school in digital photography and traditional darkroom in both undergraduate and graduate courses;
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite;
- Knowledgeable about lighting in both fine art and commercial applications;
- Experience in video production and editing;
- Evidence of creative accomplishments in the field of photography;
- Manage a photography studio including traditional darkroom and digital studio;
- Willing to work with a diverse student, faculty and staff population.

- Teach 12 credit hours per semester with a primary focus in photography;
- Teach supplemental classes in Department of Art and Design where needed;
- Teach undergraduates and graduate students, in face to face, online, and hybrid courses ;
- Maintain photography equipment and resources. Provide academic advising to students;
- Perform departmental and university service and maintain an active scholarly/creative activity agenda: 60% Teaching, 20% Service, and 20% Scholarship/Research;
- Demonstrate collegiality, professionalism, and a strong commitment to teaching excellence and to the university mission.

The Department of Art and Design is excited to present a new state-of-the-art facility and art gallery which will open in fall 2019. This 47,000+ square foot art facility—along with the newly constructed 12,000 square foot sculpture facility—will be equipped with the latest technology and innovation in studio and design.
The Department of Art and Design at Fort Hays State University offers a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, Art Education or Art History and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with five concentrations: Graphic Design, Interior Design, , Studio Art (Drawing, Photography, Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture, and Ceramics), and Studio Art with Teacher Certification. Our innovative Master of Fine Arts program allows students to enroll year-round, in summers only, or as low residency in some of the programs. The department also offers a Master of Liberal Studies with a concentration in Art. In addition, the department offers courses in the general education program including Approaches to Creativity, Fundamentals and Appreciation of Art and Survey of Art History.
