General Summary

The Research Graduate Assistant performs research as a majority of their service. Working closely with one or more faculty members, assist with scholarly activities or research. Potentially includes all phases of research from design through literature review, data collection, analysis, writing, and preparation/presentation of findings.

The Research Graduate Assistant receives a stipend and a tax-exempt tuition waiver.

Job Description: The role of the Clinical Research Administration (CRA) Program Graduate Assistant (GA) is to assist Faculty with activities and projects detailed below. The GA must be able to work a minimum of 10 daytime hours, Monday-Friday. Although the GA's assignments will largely be determined by the needs of the Program, every effort will be made to match the GA's interests, skills, experience, and abilities with the appropriate and desired tasks.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assist university faculty/staff with research-related projects or other assignments that require the advanced discipline skills of graduate students.

Other departmental related duties as required.

Desired Skills: Effective interpersonal and written communication skills, analytical abilities, knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), rapid and accurate keyboarding, organizational skills.

Characteristics: The GA needs to be self-motivated, able to take initiative, and perform well with minimal supervision. Outstanding candidates will also be flexible, passionate about service, energetic and enthusiastic, hardworking, creative, comfortable with the unfamiliar, accountable, reliable, friendly, open and honest, focused, detail oriented and willing to learn.

Note: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the Clinical Research Administration Program.

Examples of Activities and Projects:
  • Work with the faculty and students to produce a CRA Program Newsletter
  • Be available for faculty support as needed (e.g. proctoring exams, distribution of information to students)
  • Updating the CRA student database as needed
  • Updating website (e.g. thesis/project data for all students)
  • Initiate process for program electronic files to support accreditation activities
  • Other activities and projects as identified


Qualifications

Part Time: 10 Hours/Week

GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.

Admission and enrollment in a graduate program is required.

Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required.

Enrollment in at least 6 credits for Fall and Winter semesters is required.

For a full-time GA appointment, the University provides a tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours in each academic year (September 1 to August 31) of the assistantship.

For graduate assistants who are appointed to part-time positions and for GAs who begin employment after the start of the semester, the number of credit hours covered by the award will be prorated.
