Working Title: Executive Producer
Position Type: University Operational and Administrative Staff
Department: Department of Media Studies
Posting Date: 10-22-2018
The University of Virginia seeks applicants for an experienced broadcast news Executive Producer for the Center of Media and Citizenship in the Department of Media Studies. The Executive Producer will be responsible for the production of three half hour newscasts for the pilot year of this newscast. The newscast will be assembled using the talents of college student journalists in Virginia, starting with reporters selected at UVa, Virginia Tech and VCU, with reporters at other public Universities or Community Colleges welcome to join at any time.
The Executive Producer (EP) will stay up to date on news relevant to college students in Virginia. In addition the EP will work with the designated liaison professors at member schools to solicit ideas and maintain journalistic expectations. Supervise the posting of stories to the UVa Center for Media and Citizenship website. Determine on a case by case basis, where the broadcast should be taped and edited. Supervise the taping of the individual component parts of each broadcast, then edit each broadcast to the timing required by the airing stations. Set up needed components to store broadcast elements, either by drop box, Google Share or the UVa Media server. Responsibilities include working with the PBS stations to re-purpose each newscast as a radio podcast for air on the stations' NPR radio affiliates.
Bachelor's degree is required, in addition to two to three years of experience in TV news reporting and full newscast production. Must be proficient in the use of green screen studio production and telepromters. Excellent skills editing on Adobe Premiere are essential.
