Responsibilities

The Florida State University Art Therapy Program within the Department of Art Education is seeking a new tenure-track Assistant Professor whose focus is on art therapy education, research, and service. This 9-month position also offers additional opportunities for summer teaching.

The Department of Art Education maintains a strong commitment to the philosophy of art for life, especially social justice issues. It is the oldest department of its kind in the southeast and one of the elite art educations departments in North America, solely offering graduate degrees. The department is accredited through both NCATE and NASAD. The department offers master's and doctoral degrees in art education, arts administration, museum education and visitor-centered exhibitions, and art therapy and is located in the state-of-the-art LEED certified William Johnston Building, along with the Departments of Interior Architecture and Art History. These Departments, along with The Department of Art Education, are a part of the Florida State University College of Fine Arts.

The two-year, two-summer Art Therapy Program began in the 1980's. The program was initially approved by the American Art Therapy Association in 2004, earned re-approval in 2011, and is currently undergoing accreditation review with CAAHEP. It is the only art therapy program in the state of Florida. It has a highly competitive acceptance rate and attracts students from all over the country.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have completed a doctorate in art therapy or a closely related field, will be Board Certified or eligible for Board Certification through the Art Therapy Credential Board, and will have an established record of published research and clinical experience.

Anticipated Salary Range

At or around $52,000.00
