Under the immediate supervision of the Director of the Undergraduate Research Center (URC)-Sciences, the PEERS Faculty Director and the Assistant Director for PEERS, the Program Representative II serves the Program for Excellence in Education and Research in the Sciences (PEERS).  PEERS serves underrepresented and first generation freshmen and sophomore science majors and provides services to improve their academic success.

Major duties include: program admissions and orientation, student enrollment and tracking as well as communications with PEERS students.  The incumbent will provide program and enrollment data to leadership, counseling staff and workshop facilitators and assist with short and long range program planning.  The PEERS coordinator will plan and coordinate logistics for program events, courses, workshops and meetings; maintain program database and website. Additionally, this position will perform accounting functions for purchases, payments, and reimbursements using appropriate on-line systems; monitor program expenditures and purchases.

The URC-Sciences at UCLA works collaboratively to serve UCLA's undergraduate science population.  Through various programs the URC-Sciences recruits, develops, and celebrates students involved in research.  Our mission is to support and increase the retention of science majors in all disciplines, with some programs focused on students who face economic, familial, educational, social or other challenges.

  • Demonstrated skill and ability in coordinating programs, projects and activities as demonstrated by creating ideas, determining procedures or courses of action, selecting methods and implementation and prioritizing program objectives and tasks.
  • Working knowledge and experience in creating, maintaining and formatting spreadsheets, databases, and producing correspondence, documents and reports utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database and file applications, email and the Internet. Preferred experience using Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint; FileMaker, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
  • Understanding of privacy regulations and practices related to student records. Ability to handle and process confidential student and/or faculty information and files with professionalism and discretion.
  • Ability to make decisions about, and compose appropriate correspondence to students, staff and faculty.
  • Skill in working independently, with initiative and minimum direction, prioritizing assignments and completing work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload, changes in assignment, pressures of deadlines, and interruptions.
  • Writing skills to prepare concise, logical, grammatically correct correspondence, documents and reports and editing and proofreading skills for content, grammar and tone
  • Skill in interacting effectively with persons from various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to make presentations to individuals or groups of varying size which are organized and informative, taking into account varying degrees of expertise and familiarity with program concepts and special language.
