The Graduate Center (GC) benefits from highly ambitious and diverse students and alumni—who in turn teach hundreds of thousands of undergraduates every year. Through its public programs, the Graduate Center enhances New York City’s intellectual and cultural life.

The Provost and Senior Vice President is the chief academic officer of The Graduate Center. S/he also serves as deputy to the President. The Provost has the overall responsibility for the quality and performance of the degree-granting programs, including curriculum, governance, and budgetary matters. The Provost oversees the Mina Rees Library, the Office of Student Affairs (including the Office of Career Planning and Professional Development), Research and Sponsored Programs, Office of Financial Aid, Office of Digital Initiatives, Advanced Research Collaborative, and the Advanced Science Research Center as well as the Offices of the Associate Provost and Deans for the Sciences and Research, Academic Initiatives and Strategic Innovation, and Master’s Programs. The Provost’s Office oversees student recruitment and fellowship support; faculty hiring, promotion and support; and academic strategies. 

Reporting to the Provost, the Executive Director of Academic Affairs is one of his/her senior advisers and directs a broad range of academic matters. The Executive Director of Academic Affairs is also a member of the President's Cabinet.

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Stays up-to-date on academic issues at the Graduate Center and in the University, and advises the Provost.
- Oversees the operations of the Provost 's Office.
- Serves as liaison between the Provost’s Office and other Graduate Center administrative offices.
- Coordinates academic initiatives and assists in the development and implementation of academic policies.
- Manages and facilitates the functioning of Graduate Center governance and committees.
- Coordinates, facilitates, and communicates the Provost's Office priorities, policies, and programs to the academic programs and to the GC administrative offices.
- Supports and advises the Associate Provost and the Deans on academic programs and policies.
- Exercises confidentiality and discretion; represents the Provost on committees and at meetings.
- Supervises staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

The preferred candidate should have:
- A demonstrated record of effective leadership in higher education administration.
- Previous CUNY experience.
- Master's or doctorate degree. 
- Experience developing and implementing strategic plans and policies.
- Excellent communication and writing skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, administrators, and staff at all levels.
- Excellent organizational and managerial skills.
