Assistant Professor of Natural Resource Management (Range Management). Summer teaching possible

Job description

Required:  Doctorate in Range Science or a closely related field with a focus on applied range management. Ph.D. candidates who are near completion will be considered. Research funding ($25,000 per year) is available for three years to cover summer salary and some research expenses if the applicant will continue a long-term grassland monitoring research project near Marfa Texas.
A Masters in Range Science or a closely related field with a focus on applied range management is required for the lecturer position. We would encourage a person selected at this level to obtain a doctorate in range science.
Must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and possess excellent communication skills; be technically current; be an enthusiastic team player who is willing to work in a multidisciplinary program; and have demonstrated skills in leadership.

Preferred: Experience or a background in range management in semi-arid to arid ecosystems.

Primary Responsibilities: Candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in range management. These teaching opportunities may include courses such as Wildland Plant ID, Range Inventory and Analysis, Watershed Management, and Soils. There may also be additional teaching of graduate level courses depending on departmental needs, the individual’s interests, educational background and skill level. Additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor for the Student Section of the Society for Range Management; participation in and helping conduct departmental sponsored events; participation in faculty governance and service activities at the departmental, college and university levels; and engagement in scholarly activity. Such activities are broadly defined and may include the scholarship of teaching, research, or similar activities.
