Primary Function of Organization Unit: The mission of the Department of Social Work is to prepare students for practice that is sensitive to the social, economic, cultural, demographic and political contexts that shape our state and beyond. Within a framework emphasizing professional ethics, social justice, diversity, strengths and community engagement, the Department seeks to equip students for leadership roles and effective practice.

Essential Job Duties: The Business Services Coordinator (BSC) is responsible for the business operations of the Social Work department. The BSC will develop and oversee the budget plans for their department. These plans include all aspects of spending in the departments including teaching salaries, non-teaching and staff salaries, graduate assistantships, temporary labor, overload payments, summer salaries, and the various components of the operating budgets for state appropriations, state receipts, and Education Technology Fee funds (if applicable). The BSC is also responsible for monitoring all other funding sources in the department including appropriated receipts, enhancement funds, endowments, grants, F&A (overhead) and trust funds. This includes coordinating with the Head, scheduling officer, and any other administrators in the department that impact hiring and expenditures and accounting for all expenses in the budgetary planning process. The BSC updates and reconciles the spending plan on a monthly basis and meets with department administration and the Assistant Dean of Finance & Administration on a routine basis to review the plan. The BSC will coordinate with college-level HR specialists regarding all actions including position creation, recruitment, and reclassification. The BSC is responsible for the initiation of the HR actions for the departments, including additional compensation actions into the system and submits all other HR requests to the HR Specialist in college HR Services. The BSC submits financial actions to the accounting technician in college Financial Services; and routinely consults and partners with the college business services staff to promote effective and efficient HR and financial services in the department.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: -Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or similar software products. -Ability to perform routine business transactions using a variety of systems. -Ability to perform a variety of business, fiscal, and administrative functions to address the needs of the department. -Ability to advise others in matters related to office and program operations. -Ability to review, analyze and prepare documents.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - At least two years of administrative and business transaction experience preferred. -Working knowledge of financial systems or comparable information system preferred. -Experience supervising and performing routine business transactions and supervising staff. -Experience working in a university setting.
