Posting Summary:
The Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia seeks a Family Education and Outreach Coordinator as part of the new Supporting Transformative Autism Research (STAR) initiative. The STAR initiative is focused on improving the lives of individuals with autism through groundbreaking research and innovative models for intervention, training, outreach, and dissemination. The incumbent provides education, outreach, and resource navigation to support families of individuals with autism. The Coordinator compiles and maintains up-to-date lists of local and statewide resources for autism; collects, updates, and/or creates resource materials to foster understanding of autism and related needs; develops and maintains ongoing connections with community resources, parent support groups and other service providers; and collaborates with community partners to share current resource information and advocacy approaches. The incumbent assists with planning and implementation of family education and outreach activities, workshops, and trainings.

A Bachelor's Degree is required, and at least one year of experience working in an education and outreach related position. A background in social work, psychology, counseling, communications, or a related field is strongly preferred. Knowledge of resources available related to autism, special education, early intervention, and social service programs is essential. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required, as are strong organization skills and attention to detail. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel) is required. As this position will require travel in and around the Charlottesville community, a valid driver's license and having a reliable mode of transportation will be required. At least two years of experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities is preferred.
