Director of Accessibility Services
Job Description Summary
The Director of Accessibility Services is responsible for the overall leadership, vision, management and program direction for the Office of Accessibility Services (OAS). The Director supervises the OAS staff, serves as a disability subject matter expert for the University, coordinates appropriate accommodations for students in the classroom and in the use of facilities in order to provide equal access to educational opportunities at Saint Leo University. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Student Success, the Director also provides departmental, divisional, and institutional leadership to support the University in efforts to create equitable access to learning.

Duties and Tasks:
- Provide new students with orientation to disability services within the higher education environment by providing information regarding services, resources, rights & responsibilities, and channels for requesting and acquiring assistance.
- Provide disability-related advising, counseling, support, guidance and advocacy to assist students with disabilities in their transition and adjustment to the University.
- Advocates for students as needed regarding possible solutions to academic barriers resulting from disabilities.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and processes for the provision of appropriate accommodations to students in accordance with federal, state, and local laws for the implementation and coordination of a comprehensive program of services to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Accept, review, interpret, and verify disability documentation from various professionals (physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, neurologists, etc.) to determine appropriate accommodations for students in the classroom and other campus activities/facilities.
- Lead programmatic efforts focused on skill development (self-advocacy, time management, communication, etc.) and academic success of students with disabilities and tracks/monitors progress.
- Act as a mediator between faculty and students for disability-related grievances.
- Serve as a resource and provide interpretation and assistance in implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Rehabilitations Act, and other disability-related topics to faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Work with various administrative departments and faculty and serves on committees across campus as needed.
- Recruit, train, evaluate, supervise and provide strategic leadership to the OAS staff.
- Design all OAS programs and services within the framework of state and federal regulations, currently accepted learning theories, best practices in the profession, and available financial resources.
- Responsible for fiscal management including developing and monitoring the departmental budget accounts and supervising two full-time staff, as well as student employees.
- Provide training and consultation to faculty, staff, and students on disability awareness, diversity, and reasonable accommodations, and other OAS programs and services.
- Develop and implement communication and marketing materials focused on the department's services and programs for students with disabilities.
- Build associations through participation in professional organizations and development activities. Responsible for also facilitating professional development among OAS staff.
- Assure and maintain an effective case management system including case tracking, review and analysis.
- Responsible for the acquisition, maintenance, and coordination of the use of adaptive equipment, technology, and software.
- Collaborate with University Technology Services on the placement of adaptive technology.
- Collaborate with state agencies who provide services to individuals with disabilities.
- Collaborate with designated university committees in response to investigations of any formal complaints made by students with disabilities regarding discrimination.
- Develop and implement assessment measures that provide trustworthy and useful information about services provided; students, faculty, and staff feedback about the services; and the results achieved. Analyze reports and feedback to identify how the services being provided are helping students and opportunities for improving the services.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Master degree in higher education administration, counseling, psychology, college student personnel, special education, or other fields related to the delivery of services to a university student population, from a regionally accredited institution is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years' experience working with students with disabilities and providing reasonable accommodations in a higher education setting.
- Extensive knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other appropriate laws pertaining to higher education and disability.
- Supervisory and managerial experience within higher education environment.

- Experience in successfully reaching out to students and prospective students.

- Ability to use technology to effectively manage case load and work with students.
