Pathology - General

Coordinate and monitor the design, development, modification andimplementation of informationtechnology applications within the Department of Pathology'sBioRepository & Precision PathologyCenter(BRPC, a shared resource biorepository). Provide technical support andleadership for the dataenvironment; provide and design tools to assist in the management ofthe databases andclient:/serverenvironment; assist in training technical support and applicationsstaff in effective utilization ofdatabases;provide data warehousing.Work PerformedCoordinate and monitor the design, development, modification andimplementation of informationtechnology applications within the Department of Pathology'sBioRepository & Precision PathologyCenter(BRPC, a shared resource biorepository). Provide technical support andleadership for the dataenvironment; provide and design tools to assist in the management ofthe databases andclient:/serverenvironment; assist in training technical support and applicationsstaff in effective utilization ofdatabases;provide data warehousing.Work with Department of Pathology and Clinical Laboratories'Informatics staff to obtain andorganize thedata necessary for BRPC operations.Use BRPC and other Department of Pathology and Clinical Laboratoriesdatabases to respond toinvestigators' requests for archival biospecimens and data. Build andfilter cohorts according toinvestigator needs, and annotate cases accordingly. Bill clients forany data services performed ontheirbehalf through BRPC.Serve as the Biorepository Information Management System (BIMS) expertfor BRPC, providingregularfeedback and requests for updates/assistance to the Duke Office ofResearch Informatics whichsupportsthe institution-wide BIMS.Assist in development of methodology for the ongoing assessment ofdatabase performance;identify andresolve conflicts arising over the creation, control and useof data; develop and enforce database use guidelines. Do thisinalignment with the overall QualityManagement Plan for BRPC, creating standard operating procedures asnecessary.Ensure that external and internal regulations and policies governingdata management are metincludingregulations concerning security, auditability and privacy.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.The above statements describe the general nature and level of workbeing performed by individualsassigned to this classification. Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science, ora computer-related field or the equivalent coursework or technicaltraining.

Experience

Work requires 2 years of progressive programming or databaseadministration experience to include design, implementation, tuning,backup, recovery, modification and reorganization of relationaldatabases for a complex computer network.OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
