Post-Doctoral Fellow

The University of Colorado, Department of Medicine, Division of Biomedical Informatics and Personalized Medicine (BIPM) has an opening for a postdoctoral student at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The postdoctoral student will support the analysis efforts required by The Consortium on Asthma among African-ancestry Populations in the Americas (CAAPA), who has recently been funded to expand and build a multi-omics repository in populations with African ancestry, from continental Africa and the Americas, to empower discovery and functional interpretation of asthma genetic risk. The successful candidate will perform analysis and develop pipelines for next generation sequence data quality control, perform population genetics tasks such as ancestry estimation and quantifying trans-ethnic genetic correlation, and work on integrating and analyzing the unique new asthma multi-omic (genomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic and proteomic) data sets generated by CAAPA.

Work is performed under the general direction, guidance, and supervision of Michelle Daya, PhD., with input from the Division Head for Biomedical Informatics and Personalized Medicine, who is also one of the CAAPA principal investigators.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Responsible for analytical aspects of the research proposed by CAAPA, including data cleaning and association testing, development of new pipelines, and preparation of abstracts.
  • Engage in GWAS array and whole genome sequencing data analysis using bash scripting and parallel programming in a High Performance Computing (HPC)/cluster Unix/Linux environment.
  • Analyze high throughput multi-omic data.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Research experience in genetics, applied statistics, population genetics, next generation sequence data, bioinformatics


Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in genetics, statistical genetics, bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Experience in the following areas: Coding, particularly with R or Python

Preferred Requirements

  • Familiarity with standard tools for large scale genomic data inference
  • Using bash scripting in a Unix/Linux environment
  • Publications in scientific journals
