Senior Director of Building, Grounds, and Fleet Services

Job description

Provide leadership and direction for Building Services, Landscape, Grounds, Automotive and Fleet Services, as well as Central Receiving and Surplus on both the Marietta and Kennesaw campuses of Kennesaw State University. Responsible for developing and administering policies and procedures, budgetary decisions, extensive scope/impact of decisions on both internal and external contacts. Responsible for care of 95 buildings consisting of 3,616,195 sf, , 357 acres, approximately 100 full time employees at a university of over 35,000 students. Direct operations for cleaning services, landscaping, grounds care, fleet services, central receiving and surplus for the university. Purchasing approval for campus wide purchases that affect or impact facilities departments.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Facilities Management, Architecture, Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology, Construction Management or related discipline, and Eight (8) years’ experience in facilities management at an institution of higher learning or at an organization of similar complexity. Progressively increased responsibility in management and personnel supervision required.



  • Manage all day-to-day activities in the assigned subdivisions and/or sub-units of the department
  • Supervises team of professionals
  • Manages subdivisions and sub-units of the department’s budget Approves and coordinates purchases and transfers with Director and Assistant Director of Finance & Budget
  • Reviews and approves utility expenses and campus purchases with facility implications as requested by Office of Fiscal Services
  • Maintains, develops, and professionally communicates services and programs to relevant stakeholders
  • Develops, implements, maintains, and supports professional development of staff and student workers
  • Coordinates and manages communication using various tools and platforms such as Website, text, email, and Facebook
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data related to subdivision and/or sub-unit of a department activities
  • Adept at policy and procedure development and implementation, conducting periodic reviews to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures
  • Collaborating with units external to the assigned subdivision and/or sub-unit to enhance services provided
  • Maintaining and improving communications to campus, customers, departmental employees, related departments to improve efficient delivery of services and encourage use of existing work request system, planning services, events request system and decrease the need and disruption of exceptional handling of concerns and problems

CEFP, completion of APPA Institute, working knowledge of the International Building Code, EPA/EPD regulations, ADA law, state procurement law, OSHA regulations, Sustainability best practices, building systems, cleaning and grounds best practices, work request systems, presentation skills, facilities performance indicators, facilities data analysis, customer service and diplomatic skills.
