The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases currently seeks a full-time (1.0FTE) Post-Doctoral Fellow with three or more years of experience in primary laboratory research involving mouse work and structural biology. The candidate will work extensively with mouse immunization, evaluating antibody responses and protection against infection. The work will be done with protein constructs generated from a bacterial surface protease. One aspect addresses the structural biology of the protein, substrate binding, proteolytic activity and biologic function using electron microscopy, Cryo-EM, biochemical and immunologic methods. The second aspect of the work involves characterizing the immunogenicity of the protein and molecular variants, generating monoclonal antibodies, and mouse immunizations to determine active and passive protection against bacterial infection afforded by the protein immunogen.

Skills in structural biology and mouse handling are preferred. The role offers substantial opportunities for professional growth in speaking and writing, experimental design, data analysis and primary publication. Ambition and independence of thought and work are highly encouraged.

This position has the potential to contract with the VA under an IPA Agreement once the selected candidate has completed 90 working days with the University. Should the VA and the University approve the IPA Agreement, the position will transition from a Postdoctoral Fellowship to a Professional Research Assistant (PRA) role per IPA regulations. Candidates should be open and willing to make this change.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:




PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Structural Biology, or a directly related field

Preferred Qualifications:




3+ years' experience in primary laboratory research involving mouse work and structural biology
