The Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) Department (https://slhs.uconn.edu/) at the University of Connecticut (UConn) invites applications for Department Head. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Professor and will be expected to lead the SLHS department effectively and to engage in teaching, research, and service.
The mission of the SLHS department is to educate students about the processes of hearing, speech, language, cognition, and swallowing, to engage in the scientific study of human communication and its disorders, and to serve the community of individuals with communication disorders or differences. The SLHS Department offers CAA-accredited graduate training programs in audiology and speech-language pathology. The Department is home to the UConn Speech and Hearing Clinic, a full-service health care facility offering audiology and speech language pathology services to the community, from infants to adults. The SLHS Department is a key component of the UConn Cognitive Sciences Program and a participating department in interdisciplinary graduate training programs funded by the National Science Foundation (nbl.cogsci.uconn.edu and slac.uconn.edu) and the US Department of Health and Human Services (https://uconnucedd.org/leadership-education/). Our faculty have active research programs funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, and various private foundations and industry partners. Our faculty collaborate with other departments and centers across the University, including the Institute for Collaboration on Health, Intervention, and Policy, the Brain Imaging Research Center, Institute for Brain and Cognitive Sciences, the Music department, and the Human Development and Family Studies department on the main campus and the UConn Health Center in Farmington, CT. Our faculty also collaborate with external partners including Haskins Laboratory in New Haven, CT and the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory in Groton, CT.
The SLHS Department has nine full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members; ten non-tenure-track teaching faculty, including eight clinical faculty; and four staff professionals.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate effective leadership in a diverse community of faculty colleagues, students, and staff professionals, and to be an articulate and vigorous spokesperson and advocate for the department's scientific, clinical, translational, and educational missions.

Recent hires in the SLHS department included one tenure-track research position, two non-tenure track teaching faculty, and two clinical faculty.
The successful candidate for this position will have a Ph.D. or Sc.D. in SLHS or a related field, or equivalent foreign degree; an active, distinguished record of publications and achievements in their research specialty; significant and widespread recognition in their field; strong written and oral communication skills; a record of excellence in teaching; evidence of relevant administrative experience and managerial skills; evidence of ability to foster a collegial working atmosphere; and evidence of service to the field or profession.
Clinical certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CCC-A or CCC-SLP) and a record of external grant support for research, clinical, or educational activities.
This is a full time, 10-month position. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
