The Tufts Department of Biology is dedicated to providing for our students a unified and comprehensive view of biological processes and opportunities for undergraduates to actively participate in cutting-edge biological research in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, physiology, plant ecology, animal behavior, and conservation biology. The Department of Biology maintains an active research and teaching program on the Medford campus and in various field locales, and trains and advises graduate and undergraduate students as well as post-doctoral fellows.

The Program Coordinator provides advanced support and coordination for the undergraduate program for the Department of Biology. The Program Coordinator also assists with the two introductory biology courses, Bio 13/14 including the laboratory components of both courses. This includes entering student grades into a university database and an Excel spreadsheet, keeping track of course statistics such as exam averages and problem set responses, answering student emails that deal with course mechanics, formatting and making copies of exams, attending Bio 13/14 lectures and labs to assist in their technical aspects, maintenance of course website, and assisting lab coordinators in their preparatory work. This individual will also provide support for faculty teaching of other undergraduate courses in the department and keep track of enrollments and drop rates as well as gathering information for grants and programs targeting undergraduate education. The successful applicant will also be responsible for keeping the departmental website up-to-date with respect to the lists of offered courses, their descriptions, requirements for the three undergraduate biology majors etc. This individual will also be a resource for faculty asking questions about the requirements for the biology major and assist the vice chair in the proofing for accuracy the degree sheets of graduating seniors.

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience typically acquired by a high school diploma and 5+ years’ experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 0-3 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an academic setting or experience working with students.
  • Some experience in basic laboratory techniques.
