Position Summary: The purpose of the Social/Clinical Research Specialist/Biocurator is to support curation efforts, conduct data analysis, and provide project management for the translational cancer research programs directed by Dr. Jason Merker. This position will provide the primary curation support for cancer genomics efforts based in the Translational Genomics Laboratory at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Curation support will entail the identification, collection, and evaluation of data from the medical/scientific literature and online databases. The selected candidate will be responsible for the interpretation of genomic data from both heritable cancer predisposition cases and apparently sporadic cancers. They will be expected to apply standard variant classification systems for germ line variants associated with heritable disease and somatic variants in cancer and to assess the strength of evidence supporting gene-disease relationships. The Social/Clinical Research Specialist/Biocurator will be expected to attend local meetings of the research, translational, and clinical groups. In addition, the selected candidate will support the development of new projects as well as the ongoing operations of existing projects. They will contribute to manuscript and grant preparation and writing, as needed.

Qualification and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
