Position Summary: Supported by the NIMH Psychoactive Drug Screening Program (PDSP), we are seeking a staff scientist position to join our team to collaborate on PDSP screening center. The PDSP provides screening of novel psychoactive compounds to qualified academic investigators at no cost. The main duties are to develop and carry out cell-based functional assays with the G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) large collection in a high throughput fashion. Specifically, the staff scientist will be involved in planning, developing and performing small and large scale screens for a myriad of drug targets including transporters, ion channels and GPCRs according to current protocols and developing new ones to address additional requests. This position will maintain multiple cell lines, prepare DNA, carry out transfection, plate cells in 96- and 384- well plates, and perform cell-based functional assays. Analyze results from the plate readers using MS Excel and Prism. The experiments will be conducted by the researcher; at times as part of a team but, for the vast majority as an individual. Results will be collected and analyzed by the staff scientist then submitted to the PDSP online database ensuring accuracy and precision. This position will report to the PDSP Assistant Scientific Director.
Education Requirements: PhD, or similar degree, in the field of Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related discipline with a track record of relevant productivity.
Qualification and Experience: The ideal candidate has knowledge and experience in molecular biology, tissue culture, high-throughput screening and biochemical characterization. Must be motivated and have a strong background in biochemistry and/or structural biology. A demonstrated knowledge of GPCR signaling, molecular pharmacology and in vitro pharmacology is highly desirable.
