Degree and Area of Specialization:

Masters Degree or higher in public health, health care administration, student or community development or related field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

-Minimum of eight years of progressively increasing professional experience in a health care, public health, or student or community development organization.
-Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
-At least three years of experience, should be at a senior administrative level of responsibility
-Proven record in the development, implementation and evaluation of public health and prevention programs.
-Previous administration and management experience in a college/student health service preferred.
-Previous experience leading and managing professional staff.
-Experience facilitating population-level data collection methods and strategies
-Demonstrated success in cultivating and maintaining cross-sector partnerships/collaborations
-Experience in grant management and procurement preferred but not required.
-Experience with, and a commitment to serving underrepresented students.

Position Summary:

The Director of Prevention and Campus Health Initiatives is a leadership position at University Health Services (UHS), the student health service at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. UHS serves most of the functions of a public health office for the UW campus. The position has direct management and supervisory responsibility for four managers and an overall prevention services staff of 17 FTE in four units including Epidemiology and Population Health, Marketing and Health Communications, Violence Prevention, and Healthy Campus. This position, working in collaboration with other UHS Directors, the UHS Executive Director, and campus and community partners, is expected to develop policies, systems and environments, and manage programs and initiatives that support the UHS mission of promoting students' academic and personal success. An integrated, data-driven model of medical, mental health and public health prevention activities and services should be employed to promote policies that support optimal health of the campus community.

The Director of Prevention and Campus Health Initiatives is expected to lead interdisciplinary UHS initiatives addressing the needs of the UW-Madison campus on population-level issues such as high risk alcohol use, sexual assault, suicide prevention, wellness, health equity, and campus mental health through collaboration with campus and community partners. The position is the chief UHS representative on campus and community health and prevention policy, serving on campus committees, work groups, and councils convened by the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the UW-System, the City of Madison, Dane County and the State of Wisconsin.

The Director of Prevention and Campus Health Initiatives also oversees all aspects of UHS communications and media relations including the public information officer of UHS. Additionally, the position is expected to actively seek and obtain outside sources of program support through grant funding or other mechanisms.

The Director of Prevention and Campus Health oversees multiple population based surveys and analytic activities some of which are conducted in collaboration with other college campuses and public health entities.

The Director of Prevention and Campus Health Initiatives advances a respectful and healthy work environment for a diverse work force and actively promotes diversity and inclusion. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills, experience in directing and supervising staff, expertise in prevention and public health strategy and leadership, program development, implementation, and evaluation, knowledge of campus and public health issues. Experience with all aspects of grant-funded programs is desirable. Duties are performed under the general supervision of, and the position reports to, the Executive Director of University Health Services.
