Position Summary

Through excellence in teaching, research, and service, the Department of Kinesiology integrates the multi-disciplinary study of movement and application of lifetime physical activity to prepare professionals (teachers, clinicians, scientists, faculty) at both the undergraduate and graduate level to enhance the health, physical activity, physical performance, and well-being of individuals across the lifespan in diverse contexts. This position directly supports the multi-disciplinary nature of the research mission in Kinesiology. Dr. Jennifer Etnier, Department of Kinesiology, is inviting applications for a research scientist position working on the Physical Activity and Alzheimer's Disease (PAAD)-2 study. PAAD-2 is a phase II clinical trial supported by the National Institute of Aging. This 5-year study will explore the effects of a 1-year physical activity program on cognitive performance by cognitively normal adults with a family history of Alzheimer's.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Kinesiology, Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, or related field.
  • The candidate must have and maintain CPR certification and be a Level 4 MRI operator with experience collecting behavioral and MRI data and with reducing and analyzing MRI data using Free Surfer and CONN software

Competitive candidates should have a strong research background with excellent data collection and management skills. . The candidate must have good communication skills and should also be comfortable with communicating with an MR physicist, the development of MR collection sequences, the establishment of appropriate research designs, the acquisition and analysis of neuroimaging data (structural and functional MRI), manuscript preparation, and assisting in the training of graduate students and research assistants. The research scientist will be primarily responsible for conducting MRI scans and for reduction and analysis of MRI data but will be cross-trained and expected to support the project in other ways as needed. S/he will work closely with the investigative team and will have the opportunity to participate in and take the lead on publications using data from this and other related projects. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the success of this funded project. Start date is negotiable, but preference for starting in January 2019.
