General Summary of Position:
The University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Political Science, with a specialization International Relations and a focus in either human rights or political economy and development. Candidates must also have the capacity to develop and teach quantitative research methods courses for our Global Studies PhD program. Applicants should also be prepared to offer undergraduate Political Science courses and Global Studies PhD courses. The appointment is expected to begin in the fall of 2019.
A Ph.D. in Political Science is required. Current ABD candidates are encouraged to apply, although the Ph.D. must be in hand by the appointment date. Recommendation letters for ABD applicants should address when the applicant is expected to defend his or her dissertation.
The new hire would join a collegial and ambitious department and university where research productive faculty teach a 2/2 course load.

The Political Science Department is housed within the University's College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (FAHSS). The College is the largest unit of the University, with 11 academic departments and over 180 full time faculty. FAHSS has experienced significant growth in recent years, including hiring more than 60 new faculty members, achieving 70% growth in funded research expenditures, and the addition of several new interdisciplinary graduate programs. The Political Science Department currently has 12 tenured and tenure track faculty members, 3 visiting positions, and 3 adjunct faculty members. The Political Science Department is also home to UML's interdisciplinary Global Studies Ph.D. Program (https://www.uml.edu/FAHSS/Global-Studies/). In addition, our faculty are also engaged in the teaching and design of the interdisciplinary Peace and Conflict Studies Program (which offers undergraduate and master's degrees) and the newly established Master's in Public Administration. Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- Ph.D. in Political Science (must have in hand by the time of appointment)
- Evidence of expertise in international relations with a focus in human rights or international political economy and development
- Evidence of strong statistical skills and ability to teach quantitative methods at the doctoral level
- Evidence of ability to develop and teach graduate and undergraduate political science courses in either human rights or political economy and development
