Clark University seeks a live-in professional and essential member of the Student Affairs team to serve as Residential Hall Director-Student Activities Coordinator. This position is responsible for managing and supervising the day-to-day community development and operations of a combination of up to 450 first-year and upper-class students. The position reports to the Director of Campus Life for Residential Life & Housing and supervises 9-15 paraprofessional Resident Advisers.
Hall Directors are expected to challenge, support, and mentor students on a daily basis; work schedules are intentionally flexible to allow for staff to connect with students when they are most active, not only during traditional work day hours. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train and evaluate 9-15 Resident Advisers.
- Under the leadership of the Director, develop, implement and enhance a comprehensive Residential Experience model.
- Serve as a University Hearing Officer to conduct first level student disciplinary proceedings.
- Serve as on‑call staff person for the residential community on a rotating basis with the other professional staff members. This includes responding to various policy infractions and incidents both on foot and/or in a low speed electric vehicle, which is provided by the University as needed.
- Be aware of and address student problems and assist students on an individual and group basis regarding personal, academic, and housing-related concerns. Share information about issues to other staff and offices, as appropriate.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings and regular one-on-one meetings with Resident Advisers to share information and discuss student and Hall/House related problems.
- Provide leadership for students and staff to initiate, implement, and evaluate educational, social, recreational, and community service programs for residential students. Actively encourage faculty and staff involvement. Implement and attend programs to provide maximum visibility in Halls.
- Manage professional development, staff development, and hall programming budgets.
- Coordinate staff efforts to effectively serve as a liaison between residents and Physical Plant/University Police.
- Act as liaison to the Director of Campus Life for Residential Life & Housing regarding housing and staffing related issues, i.e. duty schedules, room assignment, room changes, damage billing, opening and closings, room condition cards, housing lottery, etc.
- Act as a liaison to the Assistant Director of Campus Life in planning and implementing RA training programs, in‑service training programs, RA socials and appreciation events, RA evaluations, RA Hiring processes, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Collateral Assignments: Student Activities
- Working with the Director of Campus Life for Student Leadership & Programming (SLP), support student organizations and their events.
- Assist the Director of SLP with planning and implementation of major traditional events.
- Program advise an assigned group of student clubs and organizations.
- Assist with the marketing and promotion of student events.
- Facilitate in the new club creation process and communications.
- Other projects to be determined by the Director of SLP.
- Collateral assignments are subject to change based on departmental and divisional needs.
- Bachelor’s degree, required; Master’s preferred.
- Previous residential life experience at the RA or professional level, required.
- Flexible and adaptable; high-energy approach to student development and proven ability to engage students.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; possess basic budgeting skills.
- A strong understanding of student development is essential.
