Job Description
The Deputy Director of Athletics, Internal Operations will have responsibility for ensuring the efficient allocation and responsible management of department resources in support of the formal strategic objectives of the athletic department. Additionally, he or she will provide leadership as it relates to the daily internal operations of the athletic department.


  • Oversee day to day internal operations of the Athletics Department and serve as key member of Department's Cabinet.
    • Administer several internal units of the department.
    • Chair the department's administrative staff meeting and sport supervisor meetings.
    • Interact with representatives from Student Affairs and Campus Police to administer any violations of the student-athlete code of conduct.
  • Assist the Director of Athletics with strategic planning and providing direction in planning, design and construction of facilities.
    • Work closely with the Director of Athletics, Assistant AD for Facilities and Operations and various campus units responsible for finance and construction to plan, finance and construct facilities necessary for providing a top-quality student-athletes experience.
  • Establish and monitor long term financial and capital plans, administer zero-based budget process.
    • Work in conjunction with the department's finance staff to prepare and monitor the annual, long term and capital budgets, and with the department's Development staff to identify and develop revenue sources to provided resources necessary to grow the annual budget.
    • Work closely with the university's budget, controller, and treasury offices to build support for Athletics initiatives.
  • Provide supervision and oversight of Facilities and Event Operations, Business Operations, and Sport Performance units.
    • Oversee these units which provide resources and assure the well-being of student-athletes.
    • Serve as direct supervisor for unit heads which includes performance evaluation.
  • Provide sport supervision and oversight for assigned programs.
    • Oversee head coaches of assigned sport programs and assist coaching staff with day to day administration of the program.
    • Conduct evaluations of head coaches.
    • Oversee completion of team performance planner annually, and conduct searches for head coaching positions as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Nine (9) years of experience in a NCAA Division I athletic department with at least three (3) years of experience supervising full time staff.
  • Additional education may be used as a substitution for this minimum experience requirements to include:
    • Master's degree and seven (7) years of experience or
    • Doctoral degree and five (5) years of experience.
  • Experience in a role with oversight of fiscal operations and budget management for an NCAA Division I athletic department.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in a NCAA Division I athletic department.
