Department of History and Political Science
The Department of History and Political Science has four full-time faculty; there are approximately 40 majors pursuing undergraduate degrees in History, History Education, International Studies, Political Science, and Secondary Education.  The department also plays a vital role in NNU's General Education Program.  The proximity to Boise, the state’s capital, offers great opportunities for internships and research as well as other cultural amenities.

Description of Position
The Department of History and Political Science invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in U.S. History beginning fall of 2019, contingent on funding. Teaching responsibilities include a two semester sequence of U.S. History courses, Recent American History, and upper level courses in support of the History and History Education majors. The area of specialty is open and the successful candidate will have opportunities to develop new courses within the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to contribute to the University’s Honors College. In addition to teaching responsibilities the position serves as the primary advisor for the Secondary Education in History major.

Northwest Nazarene University is sponsored by the Church of the Nazarene and seeks to reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of the body of Christ in its faculty, staff administration and students. All those interested are encouraged to apply and will be evaluated equitably. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Applicants will have a Ph.D. in history or be ABD and near completion. We seek applicants with experience teaching undergraduates and who are committed to teaching in a Christian liberal arts university.  Although the candidate’s primary focus should be excellence in undergraduate teaching, an active research agenda and normal institutional service are desired and necessary for promotion and tenure.

The University requires that all candidates identify as Christians (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition), and must be in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU and willing to help advance the spiritual goals of the University.

The salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant and will be discussed with individual candidates as they are invited to interview for this position.  Full-time personnel will be offered access to a benefits package including health, vision and dental insurance for employee and family, life and long-term disability insurance, flexible spending plan, tuition benefits for employee and dependents, opportunities for professional development, and a retirement program.
