STANDARD HOURS: 40 hours per week. Typical hours Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Flexibility required to work other hours as needed.
*Current benefit eligible employees will be placed within the pay range based on their current rate/range.

Provide strategic and visionary leadership in alignment with the College, Student Services, and the Student Development department. Responsible to ensure that NWTC, its facilities as well as staff members, are in compliance with State and Federal disability laws. Provide leadership for staff within Counseling Services and Disability Services as well as case management for students who have disabilities. Develop cohesive collaboration between teams, develop and implement a comprehensive array of student learning initiatives designed to support students with mental health concerns or disabilities. Serve as a member of the Student Development leadership team.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Develop a district wide plan with vision and direction for Counseling and Disability Services. Develop and monitor progress of action plans items consistent with the goals and objectives of the department and that support student success. Partner with RLC and campus leadership to establish and evaluate services district-wide
  • Provide leadership to Disability and Counseling Services staff regarding day-to-day operations. Review, modify, and/or create work processes to ensure cost effective and efficient operations of the teams.
  • Supervise and support licensed professional counselors to maintain licensure, sustain professional student records, and establish treatment plans.
  • Manage the delivery of personal counseling services, outreach, events, reporting, and integration of early alert and student record software
  • Ensure consistency and federal regulation compliance when developing learning plans for students who have disabilities. Follow up on concerns with instructors and students as well as provide additional resources when necessary or requested.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA as well as Section 504 of the Rehab Act within the classrooms and facilities at NWTC and all its campuses as well as Regional Centers.
  • Initiate human resource actions including hiring, discipline, and terminations. Determine staffing levels and complete performance reviews. Communicate performance expectations and provide positive and constructive feedback.
  • Develop and monitor team budgets, and funds allocated through the Carl Perkins Grant as well as contracted services. Monitor revenues and expenses to ensure operations are within budget. Assist with the purchase, maintenance, and inventory of equipment and supplies. Monitor grant activities to ensure grant outcomes are met and project activities are appropriately reported.
  • Engage in the College student success work and design creative interventions and success strategies for students working with the Counseling and Disability Services offices
  • Create an environment of collaboration, trust and confidentiality to create spaces for students to work through difficult personal and academic barriers.

Education: Master's degree in human services, counseling, education, leadership or related field.
Experience: Minimum of four years' experience working with in the areas of Disability Services, Counseling, or student services leadership, including an understanding of mental health disorders and experience in leadership preferred.
**An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Computer Skills

Microsoft Office Suite and Student Information System (PeopleSoft or similar records management system) and Electronic Medical Records

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of ADA as well as Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and initiate transition efforts for students with disabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working with people with disabilities with the ability to identify learning styles and how to assess and/or adjust accommodations being provided.
  • Familiarity with various types of auxiliary/adaptive equipment.
  • Knowledge of counseling licensure, theory and service provision.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and be insurable under the District's standard insurance policy terms.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention, personal counseling theory and practice, assessment of disability, community mental health resources, and treatment planning.
