Executive Director of Graduate and Extended Studies Programs

Position Summary:

The Executive Director of Graduate and Extended Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences and the forthcoming School of Health Studies and Education will be responsible for planning and operations of on-line and on-campus academic initiatives in the following areas:
• Graduate degree programs
• Credit bearing certificate programs, including graduate certificate programs and post-master’s programs
• Extended Studies: Non-credit bearing academic and professional development programs and continuing education credits

Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the incumbent will collaborate with internal and external partners to identify, develop and implement new programs and grow existing ones to meet student’ needs, support the University’s mission and strategic plan, and reflect institutional strengths and priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:        

• Develop and manage the human and material resources needed for the successful operation of the Office of Graduate and Extended Studies, including preparation and administration of the annual operating budget for Graduate and Extended Studies programs.
• Articulate and implement application, enrollment, and financial aid strategies and practices, including revenue and credit forecasting, to achieve institutional goals for CAS Graduate and Extended Studies programs, in collaboration with appropriate faculty and professional staff.
• Support university-wide initiatives to achieve and maintain compliance with accreditation and certification bodies overseeing Graduate and Extended Studies programs.
• Assure implementation of applicable academic policies and procedures and retention for all Graduate and Extended Studies programs, including warning, probation, and dismissal.
• Collaborate with department chairs and graduate program directors to promote excellence in Graduate and Extended Studies programs through high-quality advising, learning outcomes assessment, and periodic program review.
• Facilitate preparation and review of course schedules that will best serve the needs and interests of students and faculty in Graduate and Extended Studies programs, while making the most effective use of institutional human and material resources.
• Supervise the preparation and review of content for academic publications related to Graduate and Extended Studies programs, including the university catalog, website, and marketing materials.
• Collaborate with Marketing Communications to implement marketing and lead generation plans.
• Oversee work with internal and external partners to achieve procurement and placement of promotional media, and analysis of its impact.
• Investigate opportunities, consistent with the College’s mission, to create cohort partnerships, refresh existing programs, or develop new ones, based on analysis of developments in higher education relevant to Graduate and Extended Studies programs.
• Develop in collaboration with the Dean an Employer Advisory Board to assist with the development of new curricula and other offerings to meet the needs of school districts, health care and other institutions regionally, nationally and internationally.
• Represent the interests of Graduate and Extended Studies programs to internal and external constituencies.
• Collaborate with other offices to assure that university programs and services meet the needs of Graduate and External Studies program students.

Physical Responsibilities:

Some evening and weekend availability may be required for special events.

Minimum Requirements:

• A master’s degree in a relevant field and 8 years’ experience in a higher education administration supervisory/leadership role working with graduate and adult student populations or similar experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Professional trajectory of increasing responsibility
• Proficiency in use of MS-Office software applications suite and higher education database management software
• Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders related to the position (e.g., faculty, community partners)
• Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and presentation skills
• Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Saint Joseph’s University

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience with Ellucian’s Banner
• Ed.D. or Ph.D. in a relevant field
