Duquesne University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean, McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts. The university was founded by the priests of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit—the Spiritans—in 1878. The McAnulty College serves as the intellectual heart of the university’s tradition of academic excellence in the Catholic tradition. The McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts has 12 departments and 4 Centers. Together, these offer 34 undergraduate and 17 graduate (6 doctoral) programs. The College is the academic home of the university undergraduate core curriculum. With 159 full-time faculty, 1500 undergraduate students and approximately 450 graduate students, the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts is the largest academic unit at Duquesne University.

The Dean will develop a vision for the liberal arts in our College with its growing scholarly reputation and national profile and will provide academic and administrative leadership for the College and Graduate School. We seek a dean with a respect and sensitivity for the complexity of diverse academic units, faculty roles, and student pursuits, and who can help all to flourish. The Dean has supervisory responsibilities for all College faculty, staff, and facilities and reports directly to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. As the College’s chief academic and administrative officer, the Dean works directly with the President, Provost, and Board of Directors in university-wide duties. Moreover, the Dean must work collaboratively with deans from the other eight schools as well as with other administrators as a key member of the University’s administrative team. Specific responsibilities include administering undergraduate and graduate academic programs, including the College’s core curriculum; fostering faculty scholarship, teaching, and service; maintaining a collegial, vibrant faculty community; managing the budget; acting as the College’s advocate within the university; serving as a member of the University’s administrative team; fundraising, and promoting alumni and community relations.

Candidates must have a Ph.D., scholarly credentials commensurate with those of a tenured full professor, substantial administrative experience, and evidence of excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
