The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks a Visiting Research Specialist (Registered Nurse) to fill either 1 full-time, 12-month, Academic Professional position or two half-time, 12-month Academic Professional positions.

We have an exciting opportunity to employ an enthusiastic and experienced registered nurse to join our team as a Visiting Research Specialist. This position will work with a current study investigating why some types of bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) increase the risk for alcohol misuse and whether some low calorie sweeteners affect blood sugar control. There is also hope for this position to work with future funded projects.

The Visiting Research Specialist (Registered Nurse) will be primarily responsible for the accurate completion of research visits that include the insertion of peripheral IV catheters, drawing blood samples in research protocols that require frequent sampling and performing oral glucose tolerance test. The Visiting Research Specialist may also participate in recruitment and selection of study participants by interviewing and documenting medical history to determine compliance with eligibility requirements; perform medical tests, including, but not limited to, vital signs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree and a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from the State of Illinois, CPR Certification required. Minimum of two (2) years of recent clinical nursing experience in a hospital, clinic or similar health care setting. Candidate must be detail oriented and meticulous in all aspects of work.

SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
