Summary of Job Duties
This announcement is for a postdoctoral position to study plant-insect interactions. This is a 12-month, full-time appointment, with renewal subject to satisfactory performance and continued funding. The goals of the project are to study the impacts of aphid infestation on plant physiology, including their impacts on photosynthetic activity, chloroplast structure and function, and cellular redox status. The postdoctoral associate will also assist with the development of new approaches to measure plant health and productivity in response to insect infestations.

A Ph.D. in entomology is required, as well as prior experience with fluorescence microscopy and measurements of photosynthetic activity based on analysis of chlorophyll fluorescence and gas exchange. Candidates should also have strong written and oral communication skills, extensive experience in statistical analysis (as evidenced by graduate-level coursework in statistics), and prior experience working independently to design, conduct, and analyze experiments.

A strong background in plant-herbivore interactions is highly preferred. Prior experience with real-time PCR, gas chromatography, metabolomics, high throughput plant phenotyping, genetic crosses, statistical analysis in R, and/or imaging of fluorescent or luminescent reporter gene activity in planta is also highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
