The Economics Department is seeking to hire an Events Coordinator & Faculty Assistant. This individual will be responsible for successfully planning and executing all events including lecture series, workshops, conferences, summer seminar series, departmental functions, graduate student and undergraduate student events, and special visitors. In addition, this role will provide academic support to faculty members within the department.
This dual role has responsibility for the following:
Events Coordination: Arrange all aspects of departmental events such as conferences, lunch talks, panel discussions, invited speakers, receptions, meetings, graduate student visits, undergraduate student events, holiday and year end events. Coordinate travel, secure meeting spaces, arrange for catering, and assume responsibility for set-up and clean-up for all events. This individual will work closely with the building venue manager and will also be responsible for processing honoraria and reimbursement vouchers for visitors.
Faculty Assistance: Provide academic support for faculty members as needed as relating to teaching and other departmental responsibilities. This role will be required to provide backup support to other staff positions and will assist the department manager and other administrative staff as requested.
This position requires 4-6 years work experience, intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite; the ability to work independently, prioritize work, and multi-task; motivation to use slower periods productively to prepare for future overlapping events and the ability to communicate effectively (written and orally), with faculty, staff, external departments within the university.
The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, well organized, and a team player who can demonstrate excellent judgment based on university policies and procedures.
Familiarity with university environment and prior experience with events coordination is preferred.
