DIRECTOR OF STUDENT INTERVENTION SERVICES
Duties: The Director is the principal administrator/officer in the Office of the Vice Provost for University Life for student emergencies and critical incidents and leads the Office of Student Intervention Services. The Director establishes and maintains close working relationships with Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Service, College Houses and Academic Services, Office of the Chaplin, Penn Police, Off Campus Living, and the twelve schools, etc. In this capacity, the Director oversees the coordination and the provision of support and advocacy services for students and/or families experiencing personal and/or social crisis. The Director supervises a team of six professional staff that provide 24-hour on-call coordination of services. The Director also consults and collaborates with offices across campus to develop and implement intervention strategies. In addition, the Director coordinates student transition from the University to external, community providers. The Director serves as a consultant for administrators and faculty regarding issues that affect the academic performance, psychological and physical well being of individual students. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing training programs designed to address mental health issues, high risk behaviors and incidents that affect the university community. The Director serves as the Vice Provost's designee to the schools on leave of absence exit and reentry processes for students with behavioral issues that impact the University community. In cases of University wide student emergencies or critical incidents, the Director manages the process, convenes case conferences, and works with University offices to coordinate the delivery of services and follow-up. The Director serves as a core member of the University Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team.
The Director assists the Associate Vice Provost for University Life and Vice Provost for University Life in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs designed to meet a wide variety of student needs and interests. In addition, the Director oversees the implementation of the Campus Emergency Procedures in situations involving students. The Director also serves as the Vice Provost's delegate on Open Expression Policy, ensures the implementation the policy, and has oversight responsibility for Open Expression monitors.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree or more and 7 years to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Advanced degree preferred. Experience in higher education and student affairs preferred.
