Occupational Summary

Plan, develop and coordinate the preparation of financial analyses and reports including, but not limited to, operational and capital budgets, financial statements, statistical reports, cost analyses and other financial information; perform complex and specialized assignments in assigned area of expertise; perform lead role in coordinating complex projects.

Work Performed

Capital Budgeting and Project/Lease Approvals (25%) - Plan, develop and coordinate the preparation of financial analyses and reports including, but not limited to, operational and capital budgets, financial statements, statistical reports, cost analyses and other financial information.
  • Plan, develop and coordinate the School's annual capital budget and five year capital plan.
  • Coordinate forecasting process and prepare related financial reports
  • Facilitate processing of Capital Project Request Forms (CPRFs) including reviewing, editing, drafting of forms, monitoring status/location of forms, submit final approved requests to the University Capital Budget Office. Confirm central funding sources.
  • Month end monitoring of 721 codes for overdrafts to avoid interest charges.
  • Review and sign University Project Closeout Forms
  • For leased space, calculate net present value of lease and complete University Lease Request Forms.

Budget and Financial Analysis (25%) - Supervise, coordinate and participate in the preparation of various financial reports and analyses for senior leadership and external agencies.
  • Plan, develop and coordinate the School's annual financial funding model including calculating departmental budget support primarily based on space occupancy, teaching hours and indirect cost. Prepare the annual true-up calculations. Create financial models with various scenarios to determine financial impacts to the school and departments. Use complex financial modeling simulation approaches to test assumptions and inputs and forecast outcomes. Participate with leadership to develop and evaluate new financial models.
  • Prepare analysis of School's space costs, including allocation of actual space expense to buildings and then to units.

Surveys (25%) - Supervise, coordinate and participate in key national surveys including, but not limited to US News & World Reports; AAMC OMT, FAMOUS, Faculty Salary surveys; National Science Foundation Survey; LCME; Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) survey;
  • Complete the appropriate sections of the survey
  • Coordinate gathering of survey data from other units
  • Responsible for submission of surveys by deadlines
  • Update standard survey results trending reports
  • Respond to data questions and resolve data discrepancies, as needed

Presentations, Ad-hoc Requests, and Special Projects (25%) - Plan, develop and coordinate SOM senior leadership presentations with relevant financial and other information. Update standard trending reports and analyses. Respond to Ad-hoc reporting, analysis and data requests for faculty, HR, salary, space and research data. Assist with special projects assigned by leadership related to financial analysis, business process improvements, and systems implementations. Assist with the design and development of new procedures, financial reports and systems.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described above.

Education

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. CPA is desirable.

Experience

Work requires a minimum of six years experience in financial management, cost accounting or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills:
  • Strong accounting skills with attention to detail and ability to analyze financial data and present results in concise and clear manner in reports for management use.
  • Ability to take the large volume of data and interpret/present in a manner that is concise and meaningful to ensure senior leaders are able to understand the issues presented and make sound business decisions based on the information presented
  • Strong Proficiency with the use of Microsoft Tools, specifically Excel
  • Demonstrated financial knowledge and expertise using general ledger systems. Proficiency in SAP and BW reporting is desirable.
  • Excellence in customer service to internal and external staff and department personnel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively work with diverse groups.
  • Flexible and able to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously
