Job Description:

SUMMARY

Responsible for providing effective services to scholars in support of 10,000 Small Businesses Program. Provides direct technical assistance to participants to develop business growth plans and implement change strategies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides direct assistance to 10,000 Small Businesses participants by assisting participating businesses in developing specific plans for growth
  • Manages a case load of business customers providing consultation and advice geared towards promoting business growth
  • Assesses, documents, and synthesizes information about participating businesses to inform the provision of appropriate services and classroom education
  • Leads five-day consulting engagements with participating businesses
  • Assists participating businesses in the planning and implementation of specific components of growth plans
  • Ensures services are tailored to individual business needs and tightly coordinated with program curriculum
  • Records and leverages information regarding businesses and interactions to monitor progress and provide quality services
  • Manages relationships with participating businesses to proactively address business needs
  • Conceptualizes, develops, and executes value-add networking opportunities for present and former participating businesses
  • Assists in connecting businesses to the appropriate mentoring services
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Government Affairs, or related field
    • Significant related experience may substitute for education
  • Minimum of five years of demonstrated experience in business consulting engagements
  • Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department
  • Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem solving methods in a variety of situations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of business problem-solving theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
  • Possess knowledge regarding strong business principles' practices and familiarity/experience with small businesses
  • Ability to interact with a diverse set of businesses and people
  • Must be a passionate and knowledgeable advocate for the program and its participants
  • Possess entrepreneurial spirit and ability to find innovative ways to serve program participants
  • Intermediate project management skills
  • Ability to effectively complete business analyses
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task
  • Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity
  • Ability to collaborate, persuade and gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality
  • Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment;
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated;

However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.;
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
