Job Description Summary:
Southwestern Michigan College is seeking a Part-Time Library Assistant.

The Library Assistant—Circulation Services is responsible for assisting in the efficient operation of library services under the direction of the Coordinator of Library Services. Primary responsibilities are the coordination of circulation services and library programming. The Library Assistant—Circulation Services may be responsible for assisting the Library Director in the ordering of bestselling materials, providing basic copy-cataloging, and providing basic reference. The position works 28 hours a week including evenings during the Fall & Spring Semesters.

Required Qualifications:
Associate’s degree

All applicants must exhibit a strong knowledge of computer and technological skills and possess strong attention to detail.

Excellent customer service skills including verbal and written communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous library experience is preferred.

1. The physical activity of this position.
a. Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other employees accurately, loudly, or quickly.
b. Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
c. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
2. The physical requirements of this position.
a. Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
3. The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision.
a. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
4. The conditions the employee will be subject to in this position.
a. None. The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
