The Department of Foreign Languages in the College of Arts and Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of Lecturer in French. This position is located on the Armstrong campus, but may require teaching on the other campuses.

Position Description. Foreign Language Lecturers report to the Department Chair. The position of Lecturer requires teaching and service responsibilities as well as a graduate degree; scholarly activities are welcomed but not required. Lecturers will normally teach twelve credit hours per semester and hold regular office hours; and they will participate in departmental, college, and university service. Collegiality is essential. The position is a 9-month, non-tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master's degree or doctorate in French, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in French, by August 1, 2019
  • Native or near-native proficiency in oral and written French
  • Evidence of oral and written English proficiency sufficient to participate in a multi-lingual department where English is the lingua franca
  • A minimum of four months residing in a French-speaking environment outside the USA
  • A minimum of four semesters of full- or part-time teaching (including as a graduate student instructor of record) of French language at a U.S. college or university
  • Willingness to work collegially in a multi-language department
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two or more semesters of full-time teaching of French language at a U.S. college or university
  • Experience with proficiency-oriented instruction and with the ACTFL Proficiency Standards
  • Experience with online teaching

    Screening of applications begins February 15, 2019, and continues until the position is filled. The preferred position starting date is August 1, 2019. A complete application consists of a letter addressing the qualifications cited above; a curriculum vitae; the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of at least three professional references; and a five- to ten-minute video in which the candidate does the following: 1 (in French) explain why it is important for students today to study French; 2 (in English) describe the pros and cons of having French as part of a multi-language department; the video should be loaded onto a website/YouTube/etc. and only the link should be sent in the application materials.
