Job description

The Psychology Department at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Psychology.  This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning July 1, 2019.

Hollins is an independent, liberal arts university offering undergraduate education for women, selected graduate programs for men and women, and community outreach initiatives.  The Psychology Department is part of the natural sciences and mathematics division.  The curriculum covers research design and analysis, several core areas of psychology (abnormal/clinical, biological/comparative, learning/memory/cognition, developmental, and social/personality), and a new concentration in clinical and counseling skills, which the candidate will help develop and support.

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in clinical or counseling psychology, and will be expected to teach courses including “Introductory Psychology,” “Introduction to Counseling Theories and Techniques,” “Psychological Assessment,” and additional counseling courses, depending on area of expertise.  The candidate will also help develop and oversee a course in field placement in appropriate area agencies.  The position carries a teaching load of three courses per semester.  Other duties include maintaining scholarly activity in the form of publications and presentations, developing curriculum, advising students, and participating in department and university service.  Additionally, the candidate will be expected to provide students with research experience.

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements: Ph.D. (preferred, but ABD will be considered) in psychology by July 1, 2019, evidence of scholarly promise, and an excellent record of teaching at the undergraduate level.
