The Associate Dean for Student Life & Administration-Los Angeles will supervise key areas responsible for maintaining a cohesive, safe and developmental environment for students at the Emerson Los Angeles Center. The Associate Dean will receive daily supervision from the Vice President for Emerson Los Angeles but also report to the Vice President and Dean for Campus Life (Boston campus). The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with staff across the Emerson Los Angeles Center, as well leadership on the Boston campus such as Facilities Services, Emerson College Police Department, Student Success, Instructional Technology and various offices within Student Affairs
This is a management position with responsibility for Housing & Residential Life, Security, Student Support, Student Engagement, Facilities, Student Transition Services, Instructional Technology, and Counseling at the Los Angeles Center.

  • Supervises and/or directs the work of staff in assigned areas, including scheduling work hours, conducting performance reviews, providing advice and counsel to staff on issues of policy and procedure and assist in the resolution of conflicts and correcting performance problems.
  • Provide leadership for planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating areas of responsibility.
  • Develops and monitors budgets, in conjunction with the VP-ELA and appropriate staff on the Boston campus.
  • Develops strategic plans, goals, and recommendations for student support activities, in consultation with staff at Los Angeles and in Boston.
  • Serves as liaison to and facilitates connection with appropriate staff on the Boston campus.
  • Coordinates and administers student disciplinary procedures.
  • Serves on committees in Los Angeles and Boston as needed.
  • Serve as a representative of the VP-ELA as needed or in their absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Campus Location:

    Required Knowledge:
    A masters degree in higher education or related field.
    Minimum of seven years experience as a manager and leader at a college or university.
    Knowledge of the principles and practices of educational administration, student development, and delivery of student services.
    Ability to effectively plan, assign, direct and evaluate the work of subordinates, establish and maintain effective working relationships with the colleagues in Los Angeles and Boston, faculty, alumni and the public.
    Ability to work regular business hours as well as be present during night and weekend duties as needed. Recurring or frequent early/late work hours are required.
    Demonstrated commitment to students, and the values and priorities of Emerson College.

    Preferred/Desirable Knowledge:
    familiar with Los Angeles County
