The Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning at the University of Virginia seeks two Research Specialists for the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP). The incumbent assists with project and participant support as well as research coordination. Incumbent is responsible for learning the VKRP assessments and online system and providing information and assistance to users of the system, assisting with testing the online system when updates are made, drafting and editing materials to support teachers and trainers of the VKRP, assisting with project work groups, compiling data, and assisting with data scanning/entry, cleaning, management, and report creation. Duties also include serving as a liaison between participants, external stakeholders and senior research team, maintaining project timelines and deliverables, assisting with project publications (including online), and implementing project changes designed by senior researchers as necessary.
A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field is required. Experience working in education or educational research is required. Time working as a student may be considered. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interact effectively with a diverse team of internal and external constituencies. The ability to create data sets from survey and focus group data and create data reports is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word), and use of content management systems is essential. Preference will be given to applicants with experience following data collection protocols, such as observations, interviews, focus groups, and surveys and experience working in educational settings (preschool, elementary).
