The Gastrointestinal (GI) Medical Oncology Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the University of Colorado Cancer Center (UCCC) seeks candidates for a position on the tenure track.
The successful applicant will have experience in the field of gastrointestinal malignancies with a focus on new roles for innate and adaptive immunity, inflammation, and the development of novel targeted approaches for gastrointestinal cancers. Areas of interest include basic and/or translational topics for the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers.

Faculty applicants at the senior level (Associate or Full Professor) should have a track record of research funding. Appointees will be expected to establish and maintain strong extramurally funded research programs and participate in teaching of graduate and medical students. The research faculty position is housed at the Anschutz Medical Campus in the greater Denver area. Faculty appointees will receive excellent start-up support and will work in a collaborative environment with state-of-the-art core facilities, animal facilities including flow cytometry, mass cytometry, genomics, proteomics, imaging, and BSL3.
NATURE OF WORK
This is a tenure-eligible faculty position within the University of Colorado Cancer Center at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The primary appointment will be at any level in the Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology (subject to change depending on research interests and/or training if applicable).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include building and maintaining an independent research program in basic and/or translational studies of immunotherapy, training of graduate students and post- doctoral investigators, as well as to develop interactions with investigators within the research environment in the Anschutz Medical Campus at the University of Colorado. In particular, the candidate should demonstrate the vision and potential or ability to interact with basic scientists and clinicians to foster translational research programs. We are looking for candidates with a keen interest in building interdisciplinary programs through interactions across the many basic and clinical departments within the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado. Key selection criteria will be research excellence and originality of science. Applicants must have an M.D., Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research.
The Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado is among the leading departments in the nation and home to basic and translational scientists who conduct world-class research in gastrointestinal cancers, immunology, immunotherapy, and the microbiome. The ideal candidate should have an exceptional record of research achievement demonstrating a trajectory for success in academic medicine.
Some flexibility in working schedule may be necessary for this position, but no ‘on-call' or shift work is required.
The individual holding this position will report direction to the GI Cancer Director and the Division Head of Medical Oncology.
The person holding this position will develop and direct an independent, externally funded research program. This individual will be responsible for the daily management, supervision, training and evaluation of personnel (such as graduate students, postdoctor al fellows and professional research assistants) whose positions are funded by research grants on which s/he is the principal investigator.

This position requires a PhD and/or MD degree or comparable doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences with experience within the field of GI cancer research and/or cancer immunology research. Experience in cancer research, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry and/or a closely related field is essential.
Priority will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience investigating human GI cancers. The applicant must be highly motivated, have good interpersonal skills, and have
experience in supervising or training of research personnel.
