Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required.
- Minimum of one year experience in a full day early childhood program required.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Current DPI teaching license to teach 4K preferred.
- 10 hour Introduction to Infant and Toddler Care Class preferred.

Additional requirements:
- First-time employee must complete a physical exam (at their own cost) and provide proof of a negative TB skin test prior to the first day of employment, again every 2- 5 years.

Physical requirements:
-Ability to bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, sit on floor, and sit on small chairs 12 inches off the floor, continuously throughout the day.
-Ability to lift and/or catch a child weighing up to 60 pounds frequently throughout the day.
-Ability to move and run during large motor activities frequently throughout the day.
-Ability to visually monitor children continuously throughout the day.



License or certificate:

Position Summary:

The Division of University Housing is committed to providing an exceptional workplace for its workforce of approximately 450 career staff members and over 2,000 students. University Housing provides an inclusive and safe working environment that promotes engagement, empowerment, and professional development. University Housing operates nineteen residence halls across the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, providing a home to over 7,500 undergraduate students. We also operate three apartment communities, serving about 2,500 graduate students, academic staff, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and their families. In addition, we manage seven dining venues across campus, and provide conference group and youth camp housing throughout the summer months.

University Housing is divided into five main departments: Administration, Dining & Culinary Services, Residence Hall Facilities, Residence Life, and University Apartments. Whether we're launching new academic support services, testing out a new recipe, renovating resident rooms, organizing welcome events, cleaning our facilities, or inviting a new summer youth camp to campus, everything that we do is to support the mission of the University and fulfill University Housing's goal to be, 'The place everyone wants to live.'

University Apartments is a department within the Division of University Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a student service organization, University Apartments provides on-campus housing, programs, and services for our residents. These services actively support the mission of the University while also meeting the needs of students, families, and guests by fostering the development of a residential community. The University Apartments staff provides these services to a community of approximately 2,500 residents in 1,237 apartments on 83 acres, who are primarily graduate students, staff, post-docs and their families; many of whom are international. All programs and services sponsored by University Apartments are funded through rent or user fees.

Eagle's Wing Child Care and Education Programs (Eagle's Wing) is an early childhood education center dedicated to serving the children living in the University Apartments community, and is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin Child Care System. Eagle's Wing is also a teaching and research laboratory for university students, faculty, and staff. All Eagle's Wing programs are state licensed, city accredited, and hold a 5-star rating with the Wisconsin YoungStar Child Care Rating program. The program is licensed through the state of Wisconsin to teach 107 children between the ages of six weeks through 12 years, including a contracted 4K program through the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), and is accredited by NECPA (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation) and the City of Madison. Eagle's Wing is known for their play-based approach, High Scope curriculum, Anti-Bias and Peace Education focus.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Eagle's Wing Child Care & Education Programs, the Early Childhood Teacher will team with several other teaching staff to provide high quality, child-centered care and education programming. This includes a strong focus on developmentally appropriate, engaging, anti-bias and peace education activities within a play-based curriculum. This position will function as part of a team of teaching staff and must utilize effective communication skills. This position must also utilize an in-depth understanding of child development and accept input from colleagues. This team member is expected to be creative, self-motivated, and open to learning within a diverse international setting. Should have the ability to remain cheerful and positive within an active work environment.
