Position Details
The Pediatrics Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Lay Health Educator to join our team. The Lay Health Educator's primary responsibility is to provide outreach, education, and assistance to refugee women in Tarrant County. Function as a liaison between community and school helping community members understand and gain trust so they will participate in prevention education research projects.

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
* Implement education in group and community settings following training and protocols established by the team.
* Make home visits to talk to women about the program.
* Assist women to secure childcare and transportation.
* Assist women to complete all necessary forms.
* Ensure women receive proper follow-up care.
* Assist Manager, Director, and Evaluator in collecting data necessary for evaluation.
* Complete all necessary documentation to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
* Attend relevant community meetings, networking opportunities, etc.
* Bilingual skills in a refugee language.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions: Adapting to a variety of different environments is necessary for instructors/professors. While most work in climate-controlled, indoor environments, there are several circumstances in which one might work outdoors or outside of the campus grounds. Field trips require teachers to supervise students on buses or walking, in addition to the trip destination. Indoors, outdoors, change in temperature/humidity, excessive noise, using computer/computer monitor screen, works around others, works alone, works with others.

Physical Job Requirements: Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Language skills in Chinese, Korean, Karenni, Arabic, Somali, Maay Maay, Nepali, Swahili, Lingala, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi.
