I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking a Senior Prospect Analyst within the central Research & Relationship Management (RRM) office. DAR is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GW's mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

RRM provides prospect and donor development services to DAR by focusing on three key areas: relationship management, proactive research, and reactive research; which ensures that the best prospects are identified and moved through the donor continuum to increase solicitations.

RRM is seeking a full-time Senior Prospect Analyst to analyze, synthesize, interpret, and appropriately disseminate data and information in a user-friendly format, working to match charitable and economic interests of prospective donors at macro and micro levels. This position conducts research and relationship management functions for the university's top leadership and partners with fundraisers to ensure DAR is accomplishing its philanthropic goals. This position will report to the Director, Research & Relationship Management.

Duties:

•Identifies, understands, condenses, and analyzes financial, biographical, legal, and philanthropic information on all constituents to support prospect development to directly support top university leaders.

•Meaningfully contributes to building strategies that strengthen GW and constituent relationships, moving those relationships toward an effective solicitation. Transforms wealth assessment and philanthropic information into analyses that fundraisers use for successful strategies.

•Acts as trusted advisor and partners with fundraisers to ensure DAR is asking the right prospect for the right donation at the right time. Strives to understand the client perspective, working to meet needs in a manner that provides satisfaction within the resources that can be made available.

•Clearly communicates actionable, completed intelligence to clients, and completes all aspects of document and information storage. Regularly meets with existing and orients new fundraisers. Is the face of RRM by facilitating strong and consistent dialogue between the department and fundraisers in order to maintain the highest level of client service.

•Understands, maintains, and articulates RRM office standards, including relationship management, policies, procedures, and protocols while conducting collegial relationships with clients. Participates in discussions or negotiations in responding to client requests that may conflict with formal policies. Advocates as an expert for DAR use of fundraising system as database of record.

•Employs a wide variety of proactive prospecting methodologies that are appropriate to client needs. Understands and applies multiple screening strategies and methodologies. Monitors top prospects via news alerts and push technology and shares relevant updates with team members and colleagues. Provides capacity ratings for different purposes and different prospect types.

•Serves as a team leader, trainer, meeting leader, and mentor to others. Leads team-wide projects and initiatives to improve fundraising knowledge, core competencies, internal processes, and to network internally with key stakeholders, partners, and clients.

•Envisions potential and fosters enthusiasm and commitment to achieving excellence at all institutional levels. Promotes the contributions and needs of RRM to colleagues and leadership by using data-driven information that ties to the organizational mission. Communicates industry trends of the prospect development profession.

•Proficient application of privacy laws (HIPAA), ethics standards, and protocols in dealing with highly sensitive information with a high degree of judgment and discretion.

•Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

•Established experience in prospect development, preferably in higher education.

•Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills and diplomacy required to function effectively among fundraisers. Proven track record of editing work products for delivery with minimal error. Familiarity with training others.

•Demonstrated experience in active listening in order to empathically meet clients' needs in a manner that provides satisfaction for the client within the resources that can be made available. Ability to work in a team environment with all types of staff, including remote workers.

•Ability to compile, report, and analyze information from diverse sources, using formats, graphs, tables, bullets, and the Microsoft Office suite, to explain, illustrate, and highlight key points to achieve results. Demonstrated ability to complete tasks with thoroughness and accuracy, ensuring deliverables are precise and free of errors.

•Proven ability to prioritize work, managing multiple, diverse, and competing priorities while meeting dynamic deadlines that may shift. Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work in a demanding environment.

•Familiarity with formal project management as a tool to successfully complete specific project goals and objectives.

•Proficiency with relational databases, word processing, spreadsheets; experience with online resources such as Lexis-Nexis, WealthEngine, Foundation Center, iWave; knowledge of differences between primary and secondary resources.

•Drives own learning and takes initiative towards meeting annual professional development goals. Achieves high-level competency as defined by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement's skill sets and Body of Knowledge. Proficient application of privacy laws (FERPA and HIPAA specifically), ethics standards, and protocols in dealing with highly sensitive information with a high degree of judgment and discretion. Knowledge of ethics statements by APRA, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and other related associations.
