Job Description Summary:

This Senior Research Assistant position is for a field supervisor for the Washington, DC site for the CDC-sponsored National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) study. Under the public health/academic collaboration with the DC Department of Health HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD, and TB Administration, the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, is contracted to conduct the NHBS study for the DC DOH. The Department is seeking a field supervisor to oversee the behavioral surveillance study among Transgender Women (TW) in Washington, DC. This person will be responsible for coordinating the development and conduct of formative research by establishing relationships with community based organization and through focus groups and formal interviews. The field supervisor will also oversee all field activities including, but not limited to, supervising field staff, managing daily operations (including HIV testing) and data collection. This person will work closely with the Project Coordinator and the Principal Investigator to ensure the proper management and execution of the study

Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate and conduct formative (qualitative) research activities by establishing relationships with community organizations and key stakeholders.
- Coordinate, conduct and oversee the conduct of quantitative data collection and serological testing through managing the field study team.
- Assist in outreach activities with DOH and community stakeholders
- Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Excellent interpersonal skills
Proficient verbal and written skills
Able to work with a variety of populations at risk for HIV, including transgender women, men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs, and heterosexuals from high poverty areas.
Able to work autonomously when needed but also functions well in a team
Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
Able to travel independently to work place, trainings and meetings locally and out of state
Previous experience working with the transgender women population.
Previous experience with data collection and public health research
Knowledge and/or experience in HIV testing, counseling, care, or public health prevention
Experience in supervision of staff
Experience in report writing and oral presentations.
Comfortable in academic, professional, community-based, and health care settings

Typical Hiring Range $19.40 - $27.45 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
