Postdoctoral Research Scholar

Essential Job Duties: The primary role of this position will be to collect both electronic and hard copies of soil-testing data from published and unpublished studies useful for correlation-calibration that meet a minimum data set requirement, including additional metadata when possible. The retrieval of historical soil correlation-calibration data from archives will be gleaned from the literature and/or provided by peer scientists, initially from the southern and northeast United States. The Western and northcentral regions will be added later. These data will be entered into a database housed at the National Agricultural Library, which will be used for storage and access to the data. The successful candidate will work as part of a coalition lead by NC State University, University of Arkansas, Penn State University, and USDA-ARS.
Department Required Skills: * Ph.D. in Soil Science or a closely related discipline. * Working knowledge or experience with soil test correlation/calibration research. * Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate with faculty engaged in soil testing.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Ph.D. in Soil Science or a closely related discipline with a focus on soil fertility with experience in soil chemistry, plant nutrition, and especially soil testing. * Experience using relational database systems and software. * A working knowledge of literature review techniques, data mining, and data organization and management skills.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * NC Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
