Position Summary: Digital Services works to advance the University's academic mission and strategic goals by providing design, development, and content management solutions to campus customers and units. Our small but mighty team offers the opportunity to help shape the user experience and digital presence of the University, schools, department, organizations and more. We support websites, applications, and services such as the University's homepage, departmental and school websites, CarolinaGo (mobile application), and offer web support for key divisions, departments, and schools. Digital Services also maintains web.unc.edu a self-service web publishing service for research labs, centers, institutes, classroom projects, student groups, and campus units. The Lead Web Developer is responsible for developing websites and applications, including templates, custom WordPress themes and related web products for ITS, specific clients and the campus community. The Lead Web Developer serves as a mentor to junior developers, establishes efficient workflows, and ensures high quality web products are produced.

Education Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, math, or Engineering or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution? or - Bachelor's degree and some computer coursework from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in business application consulting or development? or Associate's degree in Computer Programming and one year of experience in application consulting or development? or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Journey level requires an additional one year of experience. - Advanced level requires an additional two years of experience.

Qualification and Experience: - Strong PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript; must write clean, well-formed code - Experience with cross-browser development and testing - Familiarity with LAMP stack environment - WordPress development experience - Experience with Git or similar code repositories - Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines - Excellent communicator and collaborator - Ability to translate extremely technical concepts to non-technical audiences - Portfolio of work samples required Preferred - Experience working with large multisite WordPress networks - 3+ years of PHP experience desired
