Job description

Duties: The Palliative and Advanced Illness Research (PAIR) Center is seeking an experienced project manager to lead the implementation of several new randomized clinical trials (RCTs) within the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), focused on critical care, serious illness communication, advance care planning, and palliative care. The mission of the PAIR Center is to generate high-quality evidence to advance healthcare policies and practices that improve the lives of all people affected by serious illness.

The project manager will be responsible for planning/implementing trial protocols and partnering with clinical sites to effectively operationalize studies; liaising with investigators in the Critical Care, Palliative Care, Cardiology, and Perioperative service lines as well as researchers within the PAIR Center and the Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation; monitoring study enrollment and intervention adherence; communicating with data scientists regarding data acquisition efforts; analyzing and reporting on study metrics (data safety, compliance, benchmarks for enrollment, adverse events, and finances); and contributing to manuscript writing. The project manager will be responsible for ensuring all RCT protocols are carried out consistently and appropriately across all clinical sites and ensuring that all RCTs are within scope, budgets, and timelines.

Prior experience in health services research is required, as is a demonstrated ability to manage several priorities concurrently. This individual will preferably have experience with clinical trials and prior experience collaborating with data scientists and analysts. This individual will function independently in carrying out most responsibilities and must feel comfortable communicating regularly with multiple stakeholders throughout the health system. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director for Project Management within the PAIR Center.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree preferred; 3-5 years' experience in complex health services research, with a particular emphasis on clinical trials management across multiple sites; demonstrated ability to manage the scope, timelines, and budget of several projects concurrently; excellent verbal and written communication skills; desirable skills include experience collaborating with data analytics teams.
