Position Summary

1. The Business Officer is the chief financial officer for the Student Health Services, overseeing approximately $6 million in auxiliary, state, Contracts & Grants and discretionary funds and responsible for budget development, oversight, financial management and reporting (including purchasing and inventory management) and ensuring appropriate internal controls.

2. The Business Officer oversees Health Information Management, which includes three Administrative Support Representatives and two student workers, as well as directly supervises the HIM Supervisor. This position will collaborate with the Assistant Director on Medicat (electronic medical record) reporting.

3. The Business Officer coordinates and manages all accounts receivable activities, including third-party insurance carrier billing, payment and follow-up, non-student income such as Workers Comp payments and departmental billing and reconciliation and collection activities. Two Administrative Support Specialists support this function, under the supervision of the HIM Supervisor.

4. The Business Officer coordinates, and actively participates in, internal audits, both financial and managerial, including the audit's topic selection, design, assignment of personnel, data collection, analysis, findings, and recommendations to Management Team.

5. The Business Officer coordinates and manages all purchasing and accounts payable activities and directly supervises an Accounting Technician who is responsible for all purchasing and accounts payable processing.

6. The Business Officer participates in the SHS Management Team, reporting periodically on financial status and training management team members in UNCG financial applications.

7. The Business Officer actively supports the growth of SHS by researching and developing pro forma budgets and managing vendor contract development and negotiation for new projects.

Minimum Qualifications


Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or related business area
• 3 years of experience with healthcare business operations and facility management, including familiarity with infection control requirements for healthcare facilities
• 3-5 years of experience with governmental accounting

Alternate Option
