The Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell is seeking a Social Media & Public Relations Specialist to create, update, plan and execute strategy for the Zucker School of Medicine’s primary social media accounts and to develop new platforms for outreach to the student body, faculty, and the School of Medicine community at large. The Social Media & Public Relations Specialist reports to the Communications Manager and works collaboratively with Student Affairs, Admissions, Faculty Affairs, Development & Alumni Relations, and Events at the School of Medicine and our strategic partners at Hofstra University and Northwell Health.
Social media responsibilities include contributing to long-term planning, daily content production, and curation on multiple digital platforms; monitoring social conversations and comments and responding as appropriate; seeking out information of interest to our audiences; working with various departments across the medical school and the student body to collect content; attending special events and activities within the school and greater community to collect content; analyzing content and spearheading social media campaigns; identifying areas of success or needed improvement; reporting on progress and needs; monitoring/measuring impact; and staying current on trends/emerging practices. Website responsibilities include creation of content and posting, as needed. Public relations responsibilities include assisting with internal and external communication efforts; developing faculty/staff notices and newsletters; creating publications and videos; producing radio and podcast content; writing media advisories and press releases; managing media inquiries and interview requests; and cultivating relationships with existing and new media contacts.
Bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree preferred. Must have three years social media experience in a professional setting and be well-versed in social media best practices and platforms. Must have knowledge of public relations principles and best practices. Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills. Flexibility, a balance of creative and analytical skills, and the ability to work with a team and self-manage are essential. Basic photo and video editing skills are necessary, and demonstrated success using visual storytelling to drive engagement is desired. Some experience with web technologies, HTML, Adobe Creative Suite preferred. Prior experience with radio/podcast production is preferred. This role may require weekend hours, in addition to late evenings and early mornings. This position also requires valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle. Occasional travel required.
